The National Concrete Canoe Competition (NCCC) is an annual competition where engineering students from across the nation test their technical and athletic abilitites. The competition became a national event in 1988 when Master Builders, Inc. joined with ASCE to fund and host the event. Ever since, the competition has gained popularity, enticing participants, sponsors, and onlookers from all across North America. Each year, teams design and constuct canoes from bouyant mixtures of concrete that must withstand the rigors of both local and national competitions. The top teams from 18 regions across the U.S. are invited to compete in the NCCC every June. The annual competition is hosted by a diffferent university each time, allowing students to travel to different parts of the nation. Despite long distances and countless hours of travel, every team is glad to participate in the growing tradition of concrete canoeing. |
