December 21, 2009 Construction is off to a solid start this year! Over the past couple months, the team made the decision to use a male mold once again in the 2010 canoe. Since we didn't have a large single piece of high density foam, we had to glue many smaller slabs of foam together before sending them to the CNC company. To do this, small sections were glued together to make larger cubes. These cubes were sanded smooth on the edges and then glued together to make one large piec of foam the size of the canoe. The pictures below show this process. After all of the sections were glued together, Jake dropped the foam off at the CNC company in California. A couple of weeks ago, Robbie and Dave picked it up and brought the mold back to Reno. Over the winter break, the team hopes to prep the mold for casting the 2010 concrete canoe, Battle Born.
