Welcome to the University of Nevada, Reno Concrete Canoe Website! We designed this site to allow current and prospective team members to have a way of keeping up to date on the happenings of the Nevada Concrete Canoe Team. Our other goal is to provide infomation and resources for other canoe teams, potential sponsors, and the interested novice. If you have any comments or suggetions, feel free to email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . CURRENT NEWS: We finally finished updating our new concrete canoe website. New additions to the site include a Concrete Canoe Message Board (where teams can discuss questions and post photos of their canoes), and an Events page to keep our own team members updated on all current events. Please let us know if you have any suggestions for the site or if you are having problems viewing any of the links (we are still trying to work out any bugs from the site migration). Now that the semester is over, the team is ready to get to work! The mold is back from the CNC company, and the team is inching closer to casting the 2010 concrete canoe. Check out our Construction Progress page for more details. Mix design is still in progress, and the paddling team has been practicing consistently despite the snow and winter weather here in Reno. The paddling teams for the 2010 team have been chosen and we are well on our way to Chico in April.
2010 COMPETITION LINKS: The rules and regulations for the 2010 National Concrete Canoe Competition have been posted. Below are links to the rules, significant changes, and hull design requirements. Despite all of the controversy over the single hull design last year, the committee elected to use the same hull design yet again, giving each school a chance to improve their construction techniques. The biggest rule change in 2010 is that the mix design must now incorporate two different recycled aggregates, and each must be 25% of the total weight of aggregates. Other notable changes are that the percent open area of the reinforcement has increased from 20% to 30%, and the VOC content of concrete sealers has been reduced from 700 g/L to 350 g/L. Finally, the design paper has been changed again, allowing teams to determine the length of ALL sections (including Innovation and Sustainability). We are lookng forward to an exciting year and we hope to make it to San Luis Obispo for the national competition in June!
